Hindus know very well that worshipping Lord Ganesha before any pious job will bring them success. As a result, you can observe people offering prayers to the God of Wisdom. Other than that, every year in the month of Bhadrapada, Goddess Parvati’s son, Lord Ganesha is worshipped. The Chaturthi (The fourth day of a month) of the Bhadrapada is an auspicious day to deliver your prayers to the Lord. Lord Ganesha when pleased blesses His devotees with prosperity, happiness, and peace. As per sayings, you can please the Lord by offering Him modak (Indian sweet). However, you cannot offer Tulsi, the holy Basil, to the Lord. Why? Well, there is a mythological story behind this. Mythological Story Once Goddess Tulsi went on a pilgrimage in the quest for a suitable person to marry her. In the course, She found Lord Ganesha sitting on a jewel-studded seat near the banks of the river Ganga meditating. Goddess Tulsi found a man with so much positive vibes coming from Him. At once, she was ready to marry her and approached Lord Ganesha. But Lord Ganesha was in a state of meditation that did not allow Him to pay any attention. Goddess Tulsi tried various tricks and finally woke the Lord from His pose of meditation. But the result of this act was not as fruitful as She expected. Because of hindrance in His way of attaining enlightenment, Lord Ganesha became severely angry and denied the proposal of marriage with Goddess Tulsi. Even after a long and heated conversation, Goddess Tulsi failed to marry Lord Ganesha. In response, Goddess Tulsi cursed Him that He will be married to two ladies even if He denies the consent. This made Lord Ganesha furious and cursed Goddess Tulsi back. He said Goddess Tulsi will only get married to an asura (demon). Learning everything Goddess Tulsi repented for what she had done and asked for mercy. So, Lord Ganesha blessed Her that the leaves of the Tulsi plant will be accepted by Lord Vishnu, the Preserver, and help mortal beings to attain salvation in Kaliyuga. Importance Of Tulsi Leaves Tulsi leaves are too pious. People use it in worshipping Lord Vishnu and his incarnations like Krishna, Rama, and others. A Tulsi plant in the household naturally purifies the air and lets people live better lives. But as irony, it is not used anywhere in Ganesh Puja.
